Foreign Relations of the United States: Diplomatic Papers, 1945, The Near East and Africa, Volume VIII - Office of the Historian: The%20President%20asked%20His%20Majesty%20for%20his%20advice%20regarding%20the%20problem%20of%20Jewish%20refugees%20driven%20from%20their%20homes%20in%20Europe.6%20His%20Majesty%20replied%20that%20in%20his%20opinion%20the%20Jews%20should%20return%20to%20live%20in%20the%20lands%20from%20which%20they%20were%20driven.%20The%20Jews%20whose%20homes%20were%20completely%20destroyed%20and%20who%20have%20no%20chance%20of%20livelihood%20in%20their%20homelands%20should%20be%20given%20living%20space%20in%20the%20Axis%20countries%20which%20oppressed%20them.%20The%20President%20remarked%20that%20Poland%20might%20be%20considered%20a%20case%20in%20point.%20The%20Germans%20appear%20to%20have%20killed%20three%20million%20Polish%20Jews%2C%20by%20which%20count%20there%20should%20be%20space%20in%20Poland%20for%20the%20resettlement%20of%20many%20homeless%20Jews.%0A%0AHis%20%u201CMajesty%20then%20expounded%20the%20case%20of%20the%20Arabs%20and%20their%20legitimate%20rights%20in%20their%20lands%20and%20stated%20that%20the%20Arabs%20and%20the%20Jews%20could%20never%20cooperate%2C%20neither%20in%20Palestine%2C7%20nor%20in%20any%20other%20country.%20His%20Majesty%20called%20attention%20to%20the%20increasing%20threat%20to%20the%20existence%20of%20the%20Arabs%20and%20the%20crisis%20which%20has%20resulted%20from%20continued%20Jewish%20immigration%20and%20the%20purchase%20of%20land%20by%20the%20Jews.%20His%20Majesty%20further%20stated%20that%20the%20Arabs%20would%20choose%20to%20die%20rather%20than%20yield%20their%20lands%20to%20the%20Jews.%0A%0AHis%20Majesty%20stated%20that%20the%20hope%20of%20the%20Arabs%20is%20based%20upon%20the%20word%20of%20honor%20of%20the%20Allies%20and%20upon%20the%20well-known%20love%20of%20justice%20of%20the%20United%20States%2C%20and%20upon%20the%20expectation%20that%20the%20United%20States%20will%20support%20them.%0A%0AThe%20President%20replied%20that%20he%20wished%20to%20assure%20His%20Majesty%20that%20he%20would%20do%20nothing%20to%20assist%20the%20Jews%20against%20the%20Arabs%20and%20would%20make%20no%20move%20hostile%20to%20the%20Arab%20people.%20He%20reminded%20His%20Majesty%20%5BPage%203%5D%20that%20it%20is%20impossible%20to%20prevent%20speeches%20and%20resolutions%20in%20Congress%20or%20in%20the%20press%20which%20may%20be%20made%20on%20any%20subject.%20His%20reassurance%20concerned%20his%20own%20future%20policy%20as%20Chief%20Executive%20of%20the%20United%20States%20Government.%0A%0AHis%20Majesty%20thanked%20the%20President%20for%20his%20statement%20and%20mentioned%20the%20proposal%20to%20send%20an%20Arab%20mission%20to%20America%20and%20England%20to%20expound%20the%20case%20of%20the%20Arabs%20and%20Palestine.%20The%20President%20stated%20that%20he%20thought%20this%20was%20a%20very%20good%20idea%20because%20he%20thought%20many%20people%20in%20America%20and%20England%20are%20misinformed.%20His%20Majesty%20said%20that%20such%20a%20mission%20to%20inform%20the%20people%20was%20useful%2C%20but%20more%20important%20to%20him%20was%20what%20the%20President%20had%20just%20told%20him%20concerning%20his%20own%20policy%20toward%20the%20Arab%20people.
