DealBook Summit - The New York Times Events Ashley Judd Actor, Author and Humanitarian Ashley Judd is an actor, author, survivor leader and global feminist humanitarian. She has worked with N.G.O.s, grassroots organizations and governments since 2004, advocating for justice, equality, healing and the rights of the marginalized. Judd was named one of Time’s “Persons of the Year” for her role as a silence-breaker and changemaker in the #MeToo movement. She earned an M.P.A. from Harvard’s Kennedy School in 2010, where her paper, “Gender Violence: Law and Social Justice,” was awarded the Dean’s Scholar award from Harvard Law School. Judd’s commitment to justice was shaped early on. In Kentucky in 1986, she learned from Barbara — the Black cook at her all-white sorority house — who illuminated the intersecting oppressions of race, class, sex and gender.
