Is This How We'll Cure Cancer?

Is This How We'll Cure Cancer? : Progress like this explains why Jimenez is focusing his pharmaceutical giant on a simple mission: cure cancer. Already cancer drugs represent $11.2 billion of Novartis’ $58 billion in annual sales, but he says he’s “doubling down” on the cancer business. In April he did a deal that essentially traded Novartis’ unprofitable vaccine and consumer businesses and up to $9 billion in cash to GlaxoSmithKline in return for Glaxo’s cancer drugs, which currently generate $1.6 billion in sales but which Jimenez says include three pills he can turn into $1 billion sellers. The same day, he sold his veterinary business to Eli Lilly. He calls it “precision M&A”–bartering for the divisions you want, instead of bidding $100 billion for another rival, as Pfizer PFE 0.21% is doing with AstraZeneca . Jimenez’s move, which he terms “the antithesis of megamergers,” will drop Novartis’ 2016 sales 5% but boost earnings per share (before extraordinary items) by 10%, a...

England forced to wear all-white kit throughout World Cup group stages after FIFA meeting in Zurich - Mirror Online

England forced to wear all-white kit throughout World Cup group stages after FIFA meeting in Zurich - Mirror Online Nike Rules: England will wear the white strip for each of the three group games The Football Association has been forced to bow to FIFA over the kits England will wear  at the World Cup. Mirror Sport revealed in March  that the Nike-produced first-team kit for Brazil would be all white, to meet FIFA's requests that sides should wear ''predominantly light or dark'' strips. England's change kit for the tournament is red with white shorts and red socks. But despite having left a meeting with FIFA in Zurich last month hoping to have persuaded World Cup chiefs to let England wear both kits in the group stage, the world governing body has put down its feet. FA bosses, who were accompanied by Nike representatives for the talks with FIFA, wanted  Roy Hodgson's men  to wear white for their opening game against Italy in Manaus on June 14, with Cesare P...

Brazil official admits to faulty cell phone service at World Cup stadiums | FOX Sports on MSN Brazil's  top communications official admits some soccer fans will not be able to access the Internet on their cell phones inside some World Cup stadiums. Communications Minister Paulo Bernardo says there was no time to install the necessary equipment to boost data services in some of the 12 stadiums, including the one hosting the June 12 opener. Bernardo told a congressional hearing Wednesday that it will also ''be very difficult to offer good-quality services'' at the Arena da Baixada in the southern city of Curitiba and at the Mineirao Stadium in central Belo Horizonte. The stadiums in Curitiba and Sao Paulo are yet to be completed. Bernardo told Brazil's official news agency Agencia Brasil that fans will have to rely on 3G data coverage, which is already deficient across the country. Problems persisted in last year's FIFA Confederations Cup tournament. FIFA Se...

Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull track losing out to a Brazilian rap in World Cup song contest - News - Music - The Independent We Are One” (Ole Ola) is this year’s official soundtrack of the World Cup that kicks off in Brazil within a month, but the track, sung by Pitbull and Jennifer Lopez, hasn’t generated the results predicted by Fifa’s marketing executives. Instead, the tune hitting all the right notes and racking up the most views on YouTube, comes from MC Guime: a heavily tattooed, slender-framed and gold-chain-wearing funk rapper from São Paulo’s Osasco shanty town. “It’s going to be down to the people to decide what Brazil’s official song for the World Cup will be,” MC Guime told  The Independent  as he prepared to go on stage to perform to over 6,000 fans in a nightclub in Barra Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro. His offering, “Pais do Futebol” (Football Nation) features football superstar Neymar and one of Brazil’s most respected rappers, Emicida, and has 21,500 YouTube views to F...

ITV signs deal with Sony to be World Cup sponsor | Advertising news | Campaign ITV: three key sponsors The broadcaster’s three key sponsors of the football tournament in Brazil next month will generate £6 million, which sources said was healthy but not a record haul. Beyond its top sponsors, ITV expects ad revenue to lift 12-13 per cent in the second quarter as brands attempt to associate themselves with one of the most widely viewed sporting events in the world. ITV is charging up to £250,000 for a 30-second spot during England’s World Cup qualifiers and will raise this further if the team progresses to the final 16. Channel 4 and Sky are both forecasting ad revenues to increase by around 10 per cent in the second quarter.

(Andrey Heuler/AFP/Getty Images) First,  we heard Olympic preparations weren’t going well in Rio . Luckily, they still have a couple of years to go. Preparations for the World Cup, on the other hand, are now the main focus, and with just 34 days until the competition begins, we’re learning it’s not Rio that might have the most problems, but the other 11 cities slated to host World Cup games. This spells trouble for everyone but particularly the fans, FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke told  Reuters . The biggest problem, he said, is the lack of infrastructure: “I know it’s difficult to speak without creating a number of problems…but my message to the fans would be just make sure you are organized when you go to Brazil. “You cannot sleep on the beach, firstly because it’s winter. … Make sure you organize you...
