By drilling testing into kids and measuring achievement and worth by how good you are at adding or subtracting numbers, then a lifetime of factory packing and number ticking awaits those that fall off of the upward curve. But who is there to pick them up emotionally – let alone financially – when they fail?

Creativity, ideas, visual communication, it’s all viewed suspiciously and eased aside at an early age to be replaced by the ‘language’ of hard numbers, words, stats and literacy. Naturally, some of these are important elements in the overall make up of education, however, what does the government’s obsession with teaching literacy and numeracy at an early age and the way these subjects are taught, lead us? And, is there another way?
An American study over six years has also revealed that not only can you drum the creative thinking out of kids at an early age, but also their well-being, happiness and overall rounded individuality. The report suggests that formal schooling should be delayed by at least 12 months because an over-emphasis on the three-Rs at an early age can cause significant long-term damage to bright children.
