Sustainability%20%7C%20Free%20Full-Text%20%7C%20An%20Analysis%20of%20the%20Potential%20for%20the%20Formation%20of%20%u2018Nodes%20of%20Persisting%20Complexity%u2019%20%7C%20HTML: Human%20civilisation%20has%20undergone%20a%20continuous%20trajectory%20of%20rising%20sociopolitical%20complexity%20since%20its%20inception%3B%20a%20trend%20which%20has%20undergone%20a%20dramatic%20recent%20acceleration.%20This%20phenomenon%20has%20resulted%20in%20increasingly%20severe%20perturbation%20of%20the%20Earth%20System%2C%20manifesting%20recently%20as%20global-scale%20effects%20such%20as%20climate%20change.%20These%20effects%20create%20an%20increased%20risk%20of%20a%20global%20%u2018de-complexification%u2019%20%28collapse%29%20event%20in%20which%20complexity%20could%20undergo%20widespread%20reversal.%20%u2018Nodes%20of%20persisting%20complexity%u2019%20are%20geographical%20locations%20which%20may%20experience%20lesser%20effects%20from%20%u2018de-complexification%u2019%20due%20to%20having%20%u2018favourable%20starting%20conditions%u2019%20that%20may%20allow%20the%20retention%20of%20a%20degree%20of%20complexity.%20A%20shortlist%20of%20nations%20%28New%20Zealand%2C%20Iceland%2C%20the%20United%20Kingdom%2C%20Australia%20and%20Ireland%29%20were%20identified%20and%20qualitatively%20analysed%20in%20detail%20to%20ascertain%20their%20potential%20to%20form%20%u2018nodes%20of%20persisting%20complexity%u2019%20%28New%20Zealand%20is%20identified%20as%20having%20the%20greatest%20potential%29.%20The%20analysis%20outputs%20are%20applied%20to%20identify%20insights%20for%20enhancing%20resilience%20to%20%u2018de-complexification%u2019.%0A
