How%20the%20world%u2019s%20most%20popular%20foods%20have%20traveled%20all%20over%20the%20planet%20-%20The%20Washington%20Post: The%20research%2C%20which%20was%20published%20Tuesday%20in%20the%20journal%20Proceedings%20of%20the%20Royal%20Society%20B%2C%20analyzed%20more%20than%20100%20crops%20in%20177%20countries%2C%20using%20data%20from%20the%20U.N.%20Food%20and%20Agriculture%20Organization%20%28FAO%29%20on%20the%20foods%20that%20are%20supplied%20or%20produced%20in%20each%20location.%20The%20study%20aimed%20to%20compare%20the%20countries%20in%20which%20crops%20are%20currently%20eaten%20to%20the%20%u201Cprimary%20regions%20of%20diversity%u201D%20where%20they%20originated%20%u2014%A0these%20are%20essentially%20hubs%20where%20certain%20types%20of%20crops%20have%20typically%20been%20grown%20for%20thousands%20of%20years%20and%20have%20branched%20out%20into%20a%20diverse%20array%20of%20species%2C%20both%20wild%20and%20domesticated.%20Corn%2C%20for%20instance%2C%20comes%20from%20a%20diversity%A0region%20in%20Central%20America%20but%20has%20since%20become%20a%20major%20food%20item%20all%20over%20the%20world.%0AThe%20analysis%20found%20that%2C%20worldwide%2C%20about%2069%20percent%20of%20all%20food%20supplied%20and%20produced%20was%20%u201Cforeign%u201D%20%u2014%A0it%20originated%20in%20other%20regions.%20Looking%20at%20data%20from%20the%20past%2050%20years%2C%20the%20researchers%20also%20found%20that%20these%20interconnections%20have%20increased%20significantly%20over%20the%20past%20decades%2C%20with%20a%20particular%20increase%20in%20the%20use%20of%20foreign%20crops%20in%20Africa%2C%20Central%20America%2C%20and%20parts%20of%20Asia%20and%20South%20America.%0A
