Planetary Monitoring and Attribution of Expressed Emotional Responses to Heatwaves and Extreme Precipitation: Full Abstract
Linking nearly 8 billion social media posts from almost every country on the planet with daily data on weather conditions and climate extremes from 2015-2021, we show that both local extreme heat and extreme precipitation events worsen online emotional states globally by elevating rates of posts with negative expressions and also reducing the rate of posts with positive words.
