BBC to Webcast Football World Cup; Wimbledon Live Online

BBC to Webcast Football World Cup; Wimbledon Live Online: "Only for UK users, of course, but big initiative from BBC to make office productivity fall to record low during the next month or so. For the upcoming football World Cup in Germany and Wimbledon tennis championship, it is live-webcasting all its TV games online as well (the 23 games it has the rights for…the other half are held by commercial broadcaster ITV. BBC exclusively holds the rights to England’s second-round and quarter-final games should they reach that stage). And yes, BBC admits it is aiming the online component for office workers, something which will bring those usual litany of complaints: ‘We know a lot of online viewing is done in the office, so we suspect this will allow people both to do their job and to keep up with the very latest action from Germany,’ said Roger Mosey, the BBC’s director of sport.

Variety: For World Cup, the online is BBC-only deal (not ITV), with Swiss-based agency Infront Sports & Media, which handles worldwide marketing and sales of broadcast rights to FIFA. BBC already has broadband rights to the World Cup tourneys in 2010 and 2014.

Meanwhile, on Wimbledon, it is giving broadband users access to five courts of live tennis action, for the first time, here.

Only seven weeks after his trip, Trump ran full-page ads in the Boston Globe, the NYT and WaPO calling for, in effect, the dismantling of the postwar Western foreign policy alliance. The whole Trump/Russian connection started out as laundering money for the Russian mob through Trump's real estate, but evolved into something far bigger. ► In 1984, David Bogatin — a Russian mobster, convicted gasoline bootlegger, and close ally of Semion Mogilevich, a major Russian mob boss — met with Trump in Trump Tower right after it opened. Bogatin bought five condos from Trump at that meeting. Those condos were...
