ZDF: HBS Has Fixed Controversial World Cup Long Shots

Complaints about a surfeit of panoramic shots during coverage of soccer’s World Cup have been addressed, according to ZDF, the German public-service broadcaster that is among those providing coverage of the tournament.

ZDF told Reuters that it had raised the issue with HBS, the World Cup host broadcaster owned by the Switzerland-based sports agency Infront Sports and Media and that, as a result, ‘The situation has improved and the number of complaints has fallen significantly. It’s no longer a serious issue.’

ZDF said that there were now more close-up shots during the coverage, but pointed out that the panoramic shots look good on high-definition televisions.

HBS denied that the panoramic shots were intended to please sponsors, whose advertising boards can be seen more clearly in such shots.
