KPN launches TV over DSL service Mine - Telecom Paper (subscription)

Dutch operator KPN has launched its TV over DSL service, called Mine. The subscription for EUR 19.95 a month includes 48 TV and 60 radio channels, which will be further expanded to 60 TV and 70 radio channels before the summer. Users can also access a video-on-demand service called FilmDirect with some 300 titles available at EUR 2.99-4.99 each, soon to be expanded to 500. KPN is working with Warner Bros, International Television Distribution and Blockbuster Entertainment on the VoD service, while it also has a deal to develop content with TV production group Endemol and expects to announce more partnerships in coming months. The 'Missed Program' function also allows users to watch reruns of shows on the three Dutch public broadcasters. The subscription includes a standard personal recorder with space for up to 100 hours of TV. Until 1 October, KPn is offering the service free to subscribers willing to participate in a panel sharing their experience to help the company improve the service. The users also receive 20 free films per month and free access to theme packages such as Club TV, developed with three leading Dutch football clubs. By the end of the trial, the company expects to have 10,000 subscribers for the service. Mine is available immediately for subscribers to KPN Direct ADSL or Planet Internet ADSL, and from later in the year, to subscribers of other KPN ISPs. KPN's ADSL2+ network which carries the TV service currently covers around six out of ten Dutch households. The Mine equipment costs an initial EUR 149.95 plus EUR 29.95 connection costs and from 1 September, EUR 49.95 installation costs.

In 1987, the Soviet ambassador to the United Nations, Yuri Dubinin, arranged for Trump and his then-wife, Ivana, to enjoy an all-expense-paid trip to Moscow to consider possible business prospects. Only seven weeks after his trip, Trump ran full-page ads in the Boston Globe, the NYT and WaPO calling for, in effect, the dismantling of the postwar Western foreign policy alliance. The whole Trump/Russian connection started out as laundering money for the Russian mob through Trump's real estate, but evolved into something far bigger. ► In 1984, David Bogatin — a Russian mobster, convicted gasoline bootlegger, and close ally of Semion Mogilevich, a major Russian mob boss — met with Trump in Trump Tower right after it opened. Bogatin bought five condos from Trump at that meeting. Those condos were...
