Journalism - Wikiquote

Journalism - Wikiquote : If somebody came from Mars to America and went around for months or years, and then you asked them who has the best jobs, they would say the journalists, because the journalists get to make momentary entries into people's lives when they are interesting, and get out when they cease to be interesting

Apple's TV Plans Fell Apart Over Content Owners' Resistance to Skinny Bundles - Mac Rumors

Apple's TV Plans Fell Apart Over Content Owners' Resistance to Skinny Bundles - Mac Rumors : their content rather than just a few select channels. A rumor in April concerning negotiations between Disney and Apple suggested Disney was pushing Apple to include most of its content, including ESPN, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD, ESPN2, ESPN Classic, and more, while Apple wanted to offer just a few of Disney's channels.

56 Of The Worst Cars Of All Time - Page 56

56 Of The Worst Cars Of All Time - Page 56 : Called “The stupidest car in the world” by Top Gear the BMW X6 is an odd design choice for BMW. Dubbed a sports activity vehicle by BMW, the X6 is a mixture of SUV and sports sedan. Sadly the X6 doesn’t perform either of those functions well. Looks-wise the X6 succeeds, with a mixture of SUV stance and sports sedan styling, performance-wise it’s another story. The tall driving position gives the X6 too high a center of gravity to be able to navigate corners like a sports car, while the off-road capabilities of the X6 don’t compare to a standard SUV. Over the years the X6 has found its stride, becoming better with each revision, but the first run X6 was a less than impressive merging of two worlds. Prev56 of 56Next post

What Steve Jobs Taught Me about the Future of Mobile | Raj Aggarwal | LinkedIn

What Steve Jobs Taught Me about the Future of Mobile | Raj Aggarwal | LinkedIn : Our job wasn’t to build the iPhone or market it, but rather build the mobile business around it. As you would expect, Jobs was bullish on getting the carriers to do what he wanted, at the price he wanted. He knew he had an amazing product and refused to move ahead with any plan that wasn’t totally different from everything that came before it.

CNN’s Jeff Zucker Says Vice’s Viceland Isn’t Doing Well | Re/code

CNN’s Jeff Zucker Says Vice’s Viceland Isn’t Doing Well | Re/code : Here’s what Zucker was talking about: While Vice has chosen to go without national Nielsen ratings for the first six months of Viceland’s launch, Nielsen is providing local ratings for the channel, and those aren’t boast-worthy. Specifically, Nielsen says that Viceland’s audience of people between the ages of 25 and 54 has dropped by more than 70 percent compared to H2 over the past two weeks. (It’s reasonable to assume, however, that the decline wouldn’t be as severe if you looked at a younger demo, which is the one that Vice is targeting.)

Platini sceptical of video technology questioning vested interest groups - Inside World Football

Platini sceptical of video technology questioning vested interest groups - Inside World Football : “I think it is a bad thing. Now, if the tests show that it is a good thing, why not. I think this is not right and that it will not work,” said Platini . “If it proves me wrong, great, but it should not be the business of the companies working on the video who win. There is a lot of lobbying in this area and a lot of interest behind this. Some have been preparing for a long time. I am quite against the introduction of technology.” “Football is a beautiful game but that does not depend on the referee or whether a decision is right or not. Football is loved around the world for its fluidity, because it’s a game that does not stop. I do not want us to harm football. In rugby it’s a little easier because the game stops and starts all the time.” Platini is hoping to clear his name in time for the European Championships finals in his native France but has admitted for the first time that

DeepMind founder Demis Hassabis on how AI will shape the future | The Verge

DeepMind founder Demis Hassabis on how AI will shape the future | The Verge : In Go, you really only get one score, whether you’ve won or lost at the end of the game. It’s called the credit assignment problem; the problem is you’ve made a hundred actions or moves in Go, and you don’t know exactly which ones were responsible for winning or losing, so the signal’s quite weak. Whereas in most Atari games most of the things you’re doing give you some score, so you’ve got more breadcrumbs to follow.

DeepMind founder Demis Hassabis on how AI will shape the future | The Verge

DeepMind founder Demis Hassabis on how AI will shape the future | The Verge : Just talking about the significance for AI, to finish your first question, the other big thing you’ve heard me talk about is the difference between this and Deep Blue. So Deep Blue is a hand-crafted program where the programmers distilled the information from chess grandmasters into specific rules and heuristics, whereas we’ve imbued AlphaGo with the ability to learn and then it’s learnt it through practice and study, which is much more human-like.
