stratechery by Ben Thompson - Strategy. Technology. Pronunciation. : However, I say “extreme” for a reason: for many Facebook is much more than that. Here in Asia, for example, Facebook is LinkedIn: it is standard for an introductory business meeting to conclude with Facebook friend invites. Facebook is also the homepage for the vast majority of businesses: a page is much more discoverable and much easier to maintain, and most don’t even bother with a website.3 A significant amount of e-commerce happens on Facebook as well, and most celebrities and well-known bloggers post primarily or exclusively on Facebook (although Instagram is increasingly important as well). True, messaging services like WhatsApp and LINE increasingly handle one-on-one or private group conversations, but in country after country that I visit or research the social paradigm is Facebook X social network; the X changes (and is often a Facebook property), but Facebook is the constant.4

3 Steps to Scare Your Audience Into Action (And Still Sleep at Night) - Copyblogger : Why fear is used in marketing You don’t have to look very far to see advertising messages based on fear: Fear of missing out Fear of losing something Fear of future threat Of course benefits are important — and in copywriting you’re taught to layer benefit on top of benefit to prove the value of your offer.

Kano model - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia : These attributes result in satisfaction when fulfilled and dissatisfaction when not fulfilled. These are attributes that are spoken and the ones in which companies compete. An example of this would be a milk package that is said to have ten percent more milk for the same price will result in customer satisfaction, but if it only contains six percent then the customer will feel misled and it will lead to dissatisfaction.

(1) Motivational, emotional, and behavioral correlates of fear of missing out | Andrew Przybylski - Academia.edu Social media utilities have made it easier than ever to know about the range of online or offline socialactivities one could be engaging. On the upside, these social resources provide a multitude of opportuni-tiesforinteraction;onthedownside, theyoftenbroadcast moreoptions thancanbepursued, givenprac-tical restrictions and limited time. This dual nature of social media has driven popular interest in theconcept of Fear of Missing Out – popularly referred to as FoMO. Defined as a pervasive apprehension thatothers might be having rewarding experiences from which one is absent, FoMO is characterized by thedesire to stay continually connected with what others are doing. FOGO Is the New FOMO -- The Cut

FOGO Is the New FOMO -- The Cut I believe that I have developed the opposite of FOMO, in fact: I have a case of FOGO, or Fear of Going Out. Okay, well not literally a  fear  of  going out.  I still love a party. Always have and always will. But I have an active non-desire to attend the mass-Instagrammed events that clog up all my social-media feeds on several-week-long intervals throughout the year. And I am not the only one. Last year, around this time of year, Lena Dunham tweeted: "Whatever the opposite of FOMO is, that's what I have about Coachella." Someone I know recently tweeted: "Not going to SXSW is the new getting off Facebook." Part of the problem is that all these things have become such  things . South by Southwest, the last time I went in 2012, felt like one big “meet you by the Doritos stage near the Lacoste house after I stop by the Smart Water lounge.” It's concerts and panels wrapped in a networking event wrapped in a marketing blitzkrieg

Google’s Wireless Service: What It Means for Consumers, Google, Carriers | Re/code

Google’s Wireless Service: What It Means for Consumers, Google, Carriers | Re/code : Not necessarily. The move adds further pricing pressure to an already hyper-competitive market. It’s certainly not a good thing for AT&T and Verizon, which just face yet another competitor. Even for Sprint and T-Mobile it could mean fewer customers for their own brand of service. Plus, by switching automatically between networks, Google is adding to the notion that the carriers are simply interchangeable pipes.

Facebook Q1 earnings call video ads versus TV ads - Business Insider

Facebook Q1 earnings call video ads versus TV ads - Business Insider : There was one line in particular in Facebook's Q1 earnings call that warrants the attention of TV executives. Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook chief operating officer, said: I think all marketers have the opportunity to do video, and that's pretty exciting, including SMBs [small-to-medium businesses] who would never be able to hire a film crew and buy a TV ad. We're seeing those put video in. Over 1 million SMBs have posted videos and done really small ad buys around them. And that's pretty cool because I don't think there are probably 1 million advertisers who have bought TV ads in that same period of time.

NETFLIX CEO ON THE TV INDUSTRY - Business Insider

NETFLIX CEO ON THE TV INDUSTRY - Business Insider : Netflix CEO Reed Hastings. Hastings said: Linear TV has been on an amazing 50-year run. Internet TV is starting to grow. Clearly over the next 20 years Internet TV is going to replace linear TV.And so I think everyone is scrambling to figure out how do they do great apps, how do they things like "Noggin" which are fantastic. That will just keep getting built up and so it's a transition into figuring out the Internet. And the way people do that is to get involved with us, with our competitors to try to start to learn what are the new patterns and modalities because Internet TV is the way that people will consume video in the future.
