New Apple hire is probably a sign that ‘Tesla’s graveyard’ will eventually be a threat to Tesla | Re/code

New Apple hire is probably a sign that ‘Tesla’s graveyard’ will eventually be a threat to Tesla | Re/code : Apple has reportedly hired Tesla’s former vice president of vehicle engineering, Chris Porritt. While Apple declined to comment, Porritt’s experience positions him to be a likely candidate to head up the company’s yet-to-be-announced electriccar effort, Project Titan. In the past, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has brushed off Apple’s ongoing poaching of its executives this way: “They have hired people we’ve fired,” Musk told German newspaper Handelsblatt. “We always jokingly call Apple the ‘Tesla Graveyard.’ If you don’t make it at Tesla, you go work at Apple.”

BMW, Daimler No Longer Want to Be Part of the Apple Inc. (AAPL) Car : The German publication claims that Apple’s talks with BMW ended last year. Indeed, Apple CEO Tim Cook was reported visiting BMW’s headquarters in Munich, Germany last year. Some key Apple executives also visited the company’s plant that makes the mass market electric i3, following which talks abruptly broke between the German luxury auto maker and Apple. Talks with Daimler, however, ended only very recently, Handelsblatt noted. The magazine says the disagreement between the parties is majorly linked with control and data functions of the vehicle. Citing “industry sources,” Handelsblatt said that Apple is interested in retaining the vehicle’s data access and usage to its own internal cloud software. Daring Fireball: The iPhone SE

Daring Fireball: The iPhone SE : There have been six basic iPhone form factors to date. (Seven, if you choose to count the Plus-sized 6 and 6S separately.) The aluminum original iPhone (3.5-inch, non-retina) The plastic iPhone 3G and 3GS (3.5-inch, non-retina) The glass-backed iPhone 4 and 4S (3.5-inch, retina) The aluminum iPhone 5, 5S, and SE (4-inch, retina) The plastic multi-colored 5C (4-inch, retina) The aluminum iPhone 6 and 6S (4.7- and 5.5-inch, retina) With the introduction of the new iPhone SE, the iPhone 5-style industrial design is the first to be used for three separate product generations. But it’s worth noting that this form factor skipped a generation — there was no 4-inch iPhone with iPhone 6-class internals. It truly says something that an industrial design first introduced in 2012 remains utterly modern and relevant in 2016.
