1704 Slave Patrols first formed, would develop into modern police departments
1763 Blankets from smallpox hospital given to Native Americans
1790-1868 African Americans excluded from Citizenship
1790-1924 Native Americans Excluded from Citizenship
1790-1952 Asian Immigrants Excluded from Naturalized Citizenship
1830 Indian Removal Act - start of removing Native Americans away from European-populated areas, onto reservations
1850 Fugitive Slave Act
1861-1865 American Civil War - Confederate states fought to protect slavery
1865 Founding of the KKK
1864-1870 Black male voting disenfranchisement
1864-1920 Black female voting disenfranchisement
1864-1968 Race-based Housing Discrimination
1870-1965 Poll taxes & literacy tests suppress black voting
1881-1965 legalized segregation
1924 KKK members elected to city council in Anaheim, CA
1925 KKK member Edward L. Jackson elected Governor of Indiana
1926-1948 US Supreme court validates use of restrictive covenants, contracts prohibiting the sale or rental of property to Jews, Blacks, Asian Americans, FHA still encourages use of them after.
1934 Federal Housing Authority created, insisted on maintaining racially homogenous neighborhoods, only insured loans in white neighborhoods
1942-1946 Federal Government “evacuated” people of Japanese descent and locked them in concentration camps
1950s KKK bombings of houses of Black people in Birmingham, Alabama
1954 FBI’s COINTELPRO created to destroy anti-war groups and groups organizing against US racist domestic policies, worked to discredit MLK, justified law enforcement to murder activists
1955 14 year old Emmett Till lynched
1956 Southern Manifesto - a document signed by 101 Southern politicians to oppose racial integration of public spaces
1956-1968 Massive Resistance - a plan by Virginia Senator Byrd to prevent public school integration by denying state funding to & closing integrated schools
1956 Southern states outlaw NAACP, fire teachers who are NAACP members
1960 Georgia Governor threatens to withhold funds from integrated schools
1960 Little Rock Nine - Arkansas Governor orders state National Guard to prevent newly enrolled Black students from entering school building
1961 white University of Georgia students riot until integrating Black students suspended
1961-2015 South Carolina statehouse flies civil war flag of pro-slavery rebels.
1970 Macon, Georgia closes park rather than desegregate, US Supreme Court upholds this decision
1971 KKK bombs 10 school busses in Pontiac, MI to oppose desegregation
1971 Nixon’s War on Drugs targets black people, harsher sentencing for drugs used by black people
1984 emergence of modern for-profit prisons, which incarcerates a disproportionate number of African American and Latinos, even more so than public prisons
1994 white Alabama HS principal threatens to cancel prom due to interracial couples
1995 Mississippi ratifies 13th amendment (which abolished slavery)
1999 Amadou Diallo, unarmed, shot by police 42 times on his own front porch
2001 PATRIOT Act permits indefinite detention of immigrants without trial

2012 17 year old unarmed Trayvon Martin killed in his own neighborhood by vigilante found not guilty
2012 white supremacist gunman kills 6 at Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin
2014 12 year old Tamir Rice holding toy gun killed by cops 2 seconds after their arrival
2014 Dakota Access Pipeline rerouted from majorly-white area with concern to drinking water safety through Sioux land, breaking treaties and endangering different waterways
2015 DOJ investigation reveals that “nearly every aspect of Ferguson’s Law Enforcement System” has a severely disproportionate negative impact on African Americans, including intentional discrimination on the basis of race.
2015 Charleston Church Massacre - White Supremacist Dylan Roof kills 9 in Black South Carolina church. Roof was later transported by police in a bulletproof vest.
2015 79 unarmed black people are killed by police in 2015.
