Twitter: 27 British clubs in the Top 100 clubs with the most followers (July 2017)

Clubs - Paris - Monday, July 10 2017 - Highlights #97570

With 27 clubs represented, including 9 from the Sky Bet Championship, England (plus Welsh club Swansea City AFC) is the country most represented in the Top 100 list of most followed clubs on Twitter, according to data compiled by News Tank Football on 05/07/2017. Spain is 2nd with 18 clubs represented, including 4 from the second division LaLiga 1|2|3.

The data used by News Tank Football in the Twitter Top 100 include followers to a club's primary Twitter account, but also followers to additional accounts in other languages. For example, FC Barcelona (LaLiga Santander) totals fewer followers on its primary Spanish language account than Real Madrid CF, ranked second overall, but the Catalan club is ahead in the overall table thanks to a higher number of followers on accounts in other languages.

The Premier League is the most represented league: it places 18 of its 20 clubs in the Top 100, including 14 in the Top 50 and 5 in the Top 10; Manchester United FC are 3
rd overall with 12.75 million followers. The next most represented league is the LaLiga Santander with 14 clubs, including 7 in the Top 50 and the Top 2 places in the overall ranking (FC Barcelona and Real Madrid CF). The Serie A TIM and the Bundesliga each have 13 clubs, and Ligue 1 Conforama has 12. No German club is in the Top 10, nor any 2.Bundesliga club in the Top 100.

The Sky Bet Championship has 2 clubs in the Top 50: Aston Villa FC (30
th) and Sunderland AFC (41st). The second divisions of the European Top 5 countries (Spain, England, Germany, Italy, France) are represented by 14 clubs in the Top 100, including 4 from LaLiga 1|2|3 and one from Domino's Ligue 2 (SC Bastia, 85th).

The number of clubs in the Twitter Top 100 that are not from one of the European Top 5 leagues is 16. The Süper Lig (TUR) has 5 clubs, with 4 of them in the Top 50, while the Liga NOS (POR), Eredivisie (NED), and the Russian Football Premier League each have 3 clubs.
